Apr. 21st, 2007 11:13 pmHepatica (hepatica americana) are among the earliest flowers in the spring.* They are a lovely twilight-purple color that defies description, but which was coincidentally my favorite color when I was young(er). Today I saw hepatica in the most heart-breakingly deep purple color.
Someone else's photo - they've clearly cranked the saturation on this shot, but it correctly portrays the feeling of really seeing them. Tangent- Ansel Adams talked about this - using filters etc to capture *not* exactly what is happening in nature, but the *feeling* of what is happening. (Good exhibit at DIA right now.)
Anyway. I hope you enjoyed this glorious day. Spring is a miracle.
*am I snob to say that skunk cabbage does not count?
Edit: why does lj not read my html?!? Updated.
