Gettin' healthy!

Okay, as a testament to my good head-space at the moment, I have not totally freaked out about being at the very top edge of Acceptable Weight Range to qualify for health insurance. As you may expect, health insurance is important to me. Therefore:
There are 23 pounds that I feel are not necessary to my sqwookness that I'd like to work off. (And after that we'll see how it goes.)
Please send thoughts of encouragement from time to time, friendly reminders (I will NOT think you are being obnoxious or nagging), etc etc. Please, I would like help with this.
Thanks, all.

Date: 2010-06-23 01:30 am (UTC)Here is the best advice I can give right now: you can't work out of a bad diet. I had tried for ages to lose weight but it comes down to this--you can't eat very much. And you always consume more calories than you think you will and you always exercise off less than you think. For example, a Bistro Brothers Salad at Einsteins is 800 calories. Add the bagel that comes with it and you have about 1150 calories. If you walk for an hour, you might burn off 300 calories and that is being generous. An hour of high impact Jazzercise only burns off 500 calories. Measure everything that you eat--i.e. 1 cup of rice is only 200 calories but if you don't measure it, I guarantee you will dump close to 2 cups onto your plate. Set an eating schedule and stick to it-for example, I do a low calorie English muffin + pnut butter & honey for breakfast, a banana snack, a wrap with hummus or something + chips for lunch, a snack around 2:30pm and a reasonable dinner. It's boring, but you get used to it. Get comfortable looking up calorie contents on the Internet--that is how I found out that the tuna sandwich at Einsteins is only 460 calories vs. an 800 calorie salad. Keep a diary of what you eat, but don't be afraid to splurge once in awhile...esp. if you do a good, hearty workout (but don't forget what I said at first--you can't work out of a bad diet). Not sure how you are, but I am not one of those folks who loses "3 lbs a week" (not really possible--it's all water weight but still) and fat does not "melt" off me...I earn every pound lost (or gained). Don't forget that you will also tone and gain muscle. I don't weigh myself for that reason--I go by clothes size and measurements.
Keep us posted!
