Last weekend, B's friend R from Michigan was in, so he and his friend G from Phoenix drove up for the day. Freezing rain, sleet, and hail obscured the view (sorry, R! There are red rocks here, really!) but didn't stop us from our planned food-and-drink adventure.
Page Springs Vineyard - Fantastic location on Oak Creek, somewhat pushy salespeople, delicious wines.
Pillsbury Wine Company Tasting Room - Downtown Cottonwood, nice, good, carries other extremely-small-label wines in addition to their own.
Arizona Stronghold Vineyards Tasting Room - Downtown Cottonwood, definitely the best fit for us personality-wise: casual, funky, and cool. And great wines, of course. All three places we visited were good.
Verde Valley Olive Oil Traders - In downtown Cottonwood. Interesting tasting room of balsamic vinegars & olive oils in many tasty and interesting flavors. Not locally produced, but probably a decent fit with the nearby tasting rooms.
The Asylum - Jerome's nicest restaurant is at the very top of this hill-side town in the recently-renovated Grand Hotel, once the town's hospital. Food was delicious and the waiter was great. In the future, I probably wouldn't order the salmon again, or order it without barbecue sauce, never my favorite topping for salmon. The squash soup, though, is fantastic!
All in all, we ate & drank our way through the afternoon - not a bad way to spend an uncharacteristically sleety, overcast day.
