Today's miracles
Oct. 3rd, 2007 06:59 pm-orchids seen during the annual site visit at one of the Land Trust's properties (unfortunately, and of course, they were not in bloom, but still.)
-sassafras trees turning from light green to lemon yellow to fiery orange - all on a single leaf - and gleaming in the sun
-euonymus atropurpurea - also known as ... get ready... the Wahoo Tree! - seen with its blindingly fuschia seed capsules and scarlet seeds, on Huron River Drive near Ann Arbor.
(If you're interested in native trees (
otterkin) this one is worth the drive. This euonymus is considered of special concern in Michigan, though not legally protected. Did I mention blindingly fuschia?)
-how autumn can shock me every time with its spectacle.
